A Note from Joe: We’re off and running…

Dear Bar-T Families,

It’s been a busy first few weeks of school. I’ve been out visiting our programs along with the rest of the Kids Club Leadership team and overall we’ve been very happy with a smooth start to the year.
I’d like to tell you about two cool things we’re doing for our Kids Clubs this year:
  • Flag Football starts in October and we’re lowering the price for joining. Last year it was $40 per child and this year it’s $20. Each team will play roughly 4 games against other Bar-T schools and participate in our Bar-T Bowl at the Ranch at the end of the season. It’s a great way to learn the basics of Football and have fun with some friends. Teams are forming, so talk to your Director or head on over to http://registration.bar-t.com to sign up now!
  • Bar-T Book Club: Last year we gave out fun and interesting board games to our schools, this year we’re switching to books. Each month we will be giving each Kids Club 3 new books for their libraries. The books we’ve chosen for September are the following:
  • I’m Trying to Love Spiders: (It isn’t Easy) by Bethany Barton is a K-2 book that takes an original and fun approach to spiders. We think it’s very cute and expect that our younger children will really enjoy it.
  • El Deafo by Cece Bell was awarded the Newbery Honor and Black Eyed Susan Award. Cece Bell chronicles her real-life hearing loss in a fun way by transforming herself into a hero who uses her powerful hearing aide to find a place for herself in the world. I love graphic novels and stories of perseverance, so I’m excited for this one.
  • Guinness World Records: Amazing Animals. This one is just for fun because I loved reading these books when I was a kid. After all, who doesn’t want to know about the world record for most slam dunks by a rabbit in one minute?! Ask your child to look up Bini the Bunny for the answer!
We’ve also got some really fun events coming up next week that I’d like to share with you:
  • September 21st – Olympics Day. With the shortened school year there are fewer full days off. Traditionally we’ve held our “Fall Fest” up at Mountainside during an October day, but with no full day off in the month, we’ve made some adjustments. This year we’re taking a cue from our most popular camp week “Camp Olympics” and bringing it to the school year programs. We’ll be bringing our schools out to the Bar-T Ranch where we will engage in some friendly competition between the different Olympic colors. The children will take home an arts and crafts project as well as an award for participating. The cost is $30, but the trip is entirely optional. If your child wants to attend this field trip, please make sure you sign them up as soon as possible at http://registration.bar-t.com.
  • September 23rd – Fall Fest Benefiting the Southern Frederick Rotary Club. Next Saturday the Southern Frederick Rotary Club is holding a fundraiser up at Bar-T Mountainside. Our ropes course will be open and you can enjoy hay rides, pumpkins, food trucks, and a great family atmosphere. It runs from 10am till 4pm and costs $10/person or $40/family. It’s going to be a great day, so come on out to Mountainside!
I hope your school year has started off well. Please let me know if you have any feedback we can use to make Bar-T better.
